How to Make Unpacking Completely Manageable – Advice from the Professionals

You’ve packed like a pro and finished your relocation painlessly and on time by hiring Moving4U, but before you can enjoy your new home you have to sort through a labyrinth of cardboard boxes and furniture pieces. Unpacking can sometimes seem like a daunting chore, so we’ve prepared a list of tips and tricks to make unpacking your belongings just a little bit easier.

While looking out into a sea of your belongings, you might be tempted to put everything away in its place as quickly as possible. Before you do that, however, you should remember these two key points:

– There is no rush to unpack everything in one day.

– You can think of unpacking as slowly liberating yourself…which might even make it enjoyable!

Start by thinking about your family’s most important needs (food, sleep and bathing) and unpack accordingly. Unpacking one room at a time is a great way of staying focused and on target. Once your kitchen is unpacked and fully functional, it becomes a common gathering place for your family where you can lay out a plan of attack for the rest of your home. You don’t need to unpack all your kitchenware right away!  Get started with the essentials and leave any seldom-used equipment in boxes. You can decide where those will go later.

Next up is the bathroom. Unpack all the necessities to get one bathroom that can be used by the whole family up and running.  Ensure that your plumbing is in order – you might have to turn the water on outside first.

Once your kitchen and the bathroom are functional, you can be deliberate when unpacking the rest of your belongings. Take the living room area for example. Before you start moving your furniture around, spend some time planning and thinking about how the room will look with your furniture in it.

If you don’t get to unpacking the bedrooms on the first night, don’t worry! Put all mattresses and pillows in one bedroom and have a family camp-out.  You can share the tasks of re-assembling the beds and moving large furniture around, but let everyone unpack their personal belongings on their own. Better yet, ask our friendly staff and we will re-assemble any beds that have been taken apart for you.

Unpacking doesn’t have be to overwhelming or stressful. It can be a fun, enjoyable team activity, and great chance to examine all your belongings and decide what to do with them.
