Moving can seem like a daunting experience, especially if it’s your first time. You might be asking yourself a lot of questions. What should you pack first and what can wait for later? Moving and packing can be very stressful if not done by experienced professionals. Moving4U offers expert packing services to meet all your moving needs. Our friendly team will carefully and neatly organize, sort and pack your belongings, taking all the stress out of moving day. In case you decide to go ahead and pack by yourself, here are a few recommended tips:
- The first things you’ll need are packing supplies. At Moving4U we deliver durable, high quality packing supplies right to your home at a fraction of the cost. Click here to check out our selection of moving and packing supplies.
- We suggest you plan ahead and begin packing several weeks before your anticipated move date. This will give you an adequate amount of time and avoid undue stress from last-minute packing.
- Be sure to pack an overnight bag with all your essentials. You might be too tired to unpack your belongings at the end of the day once your move is complete, so you’ll want your essentials within easy reach. We recommend packing a change of clothes (in case you have to be at work the next day) in addition to all your toiletries. It’s also a great way to transport your laptop and any important documents.
- Pack any items you will require shortly after you move into your new home in a clear plastic bin.
- Moving4U offers plastic bin rentals to suit your needs, ask our representative for more details. Common items required first after you move into your new home include a box cutter, power strips, phone chargers, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, cooking and eating utensils, tools, etc. A clear plastic bin stands out from the myriad of boxes and lets you easily identify these items.
- Wrap your fragile items (glass, ceramic, etc.) in bubble wrap or clothes.
- Bubble wrap is great for protecting fragile items from damage and can be purchased from our online store at an affordable price. We recommend that you pack your plates in a vertical position (making them less likely to break) and label the box “this side up”.
- Label all boxes with their contents and the room they will go into once they arrive at your new home, and mark all boxes with fragile contents. We find that color coding is a great way for separating out boxes that go into different rooms.
- For safety reasons, ensure all your dressers and drawers have been emptied in advance.
- When disassembling furniture, place all bolts and screws in a labeled Ziploc bag.
- Moving can be stressful for children too. We recommend packing a bag with some of their favourite toys, books and snacks. Bring the bag along with you in the car to your new location. This way, the kids won’t get bored or caught up in all the commotion going on around them.
